Analyst, Scientific Systems

Position Summary

Loxo Oncology at Lilly conducts discovery research, clinical development and regulatory affairs for oncology, with the goal of creating a pipeline of therapies that have the potential to make a meaningful difference for patients. Loxo Oncology at Lilly was created in December 2019, combining the Lilly Research Laboratories oncology organization and Loxo Oncology, which was acquired by Lilly in early 2019. The unit has team members in Boulder, CO, Indianapolis, IN, New York City, South San Francisco, Stamford, CT, and Madrid, Spain.

The Analyst, Scientific Systems, focused on biology applications, works with the scientists to build and maintain ontology strategies and as well as a biological inventory database.  The Analyst, Scientific Systems implements and optimizes scientific systems, provides training and ongoing technical support to discovery and development science staff in their use and understanding of the scientific software applications, and assists with the development and implementation of training programs for use of the scientific systems.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Position*

Strategy & Planning:

  • Build/align and maintain ontology strategies for cataloguing and tracking biological inventories
  • Identify gaps in software solutions and support, and develop/implement innovative workflow solutions
  • Contribute to Scientific Computing group strategy

Acquisition & Deployment: 

  • Assist in the design, evaluation, and implementation of new software projects for science
  • Analyze the adoption and performance of scientific software systems to give recommendations and develop strategies on how to improve the quality of scientific software support

Operational Management:

  • Steward scientific systems implemented for biology data capture and reporting.
  • Implement upload templates with developed ontologies for Biology data publishing and reporting.
  • Facilitate communication between scientists and IT (internal or vendor related).
  • Provide administrative and desktop support of scientific software applications.
  • Develop and maintain application and training documentation.
  • Provide training to end users on the use of applications for science.
  • Identify problems, create choices and providing alternative courses of actions with software issues.
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Background

  • BS/BA degree in a science discipline
  • 2 years lab experience, ideally in a pharmaceutical environment
  • 5+ years of experience with scientific systems
